May 6, 2026 — A new tradition took center stage at South Cobb High School with its first Athletics Gala. The South Cobb High School All-Athletic Gala was hosted in the school's brand-new sports arena. Students, families, friends, and staff arrived dressed to the nines and celebrated a special evening of food, recognitions, and awards.

The Gala was made possible by funds from the Cobb Schools Foundation's "Fan of the Game" sponsorship program. Athletic Director Dr. Ormond Moore expressed gratitude for Fan of the Game, which allowed his school to host the inaugural event that "brought together students, parents, coaches, and staff to celebrate a year of dedication, perseverance, and achievement."

Dr. Moore also thanked parents and families for their continued support, recognizing the time, travel, and commitment required for athletic and academic success. Although Principal Dr. Tommy Perry wasn't able to attend, Dr. Moore read a message from him praising students for balancing academics with the demands of training and competition, and commending Eagle coaches for their tireless work throughout the school year.

Many awards were presented to both individuals and teams, highlighting demonstrated excellence, leadership, and team pride. Several athletes were honored for qualifying for regional and state competitions, while others received recognition for setting new school records in events such as the 60-meter dash, 400-meter run, and relay races.

A very meaningful award was given to the school's 4x100 track relay team, which was disqualified from competition at the region championship.

"We fought for them and tried to show how they should not have been disqualified. Sometimes, even though you've done everything you can do, you still lose the fight. So we want to honor our relay team and award these young ladies as 4x1 champs," Dr. Moore said to resounding applause and cheers.

The ceremony also spotlighted standout achievements, including the school’s Esports team, which finished as a state runner-up, and athletes selected to all-region and all-county teams. Special acknowledgment was given to individuals who reached championship levels and even earned national recognition in wrestling.

Several coaches were honored with awards emphasizing discipline, respect, integrity, and community service. Team awards reflected overall improvement and commitment, with one program noted for on-field success after seasons of struggle. First-year Football Coach Marcus Washington was awarded Coach of the Year for his team's dramatic turnaround in the 2025 season, winning two games after three winless seasons and 31 straight losses.
