Both the Orienteering and Academics teams in the NJROTC are going to the Nationals! Orienteering Nationals will take place in California from March 11th to 15th. In the State competitions, Allatoona placed 3rd overall in the State of Georgia, and Junior Varsity came in 5th place. Academics placed 2nd overall in qualifying in Area 12. For those of you who don’t know, orienteering is an event where groups are given a compass and a map. They can choose different trails with varying difficulty to navigate through. Red is the hardest trail, and Yellow is the easiest trail, and whoever finishes in the quickest amount of time and with the highest difficulty can gain the most points and win. Chloe Wyatt won fastest varsity female in Orienteering. Academics is what you expect. You are tested for your knowledge in the military and the JROTC. An honorable mention is the Drill Event who did great but did not advance to Nationals. In the Drill Event, your Platoon must march correctly, have a uniform inspection, and have individual athletic events. Some of our own Buccaneers came in first place including Chloe Wyatt with best overall female sit-ups, Joshua Lopes with best overall male sit-ups, and Romoke Odewenwa being 3rd overall in female pushups. In the Drill event, Allatoona placed 3rd in the Armed Exhibition Drill. Academics Nationals will be in Jacksonville, Florida, at Bishop Kenny High School on March 19th. We at Allatoona Newspaper wish good luck to all in the NJROTC.
