Every community needs a source to provide local news every morning, and Allatoona’s The Anchor Broadcast does just that. Overseen by AVTF teacher Mr. Williams, The Anchor Broadcast is a news broadcast for Allatoona news that takes place every morning in homeroom. Mr. Williams describes The Anchor Broadcast, saying “it primarily serves the school by providing the announcements for the day, but it also gives them sports news, other news that’s happening around the campus.”

Williams adds “it’s more than just announcements, it’s also entertainment,” with the broadcast including videos made by the students in the AVTF classes in the ‘Shipwrecked’ segments. Williams expects to have ‘Shipwrecked’ segments every week for the rest of the school year.

Williams looks ahead into the school year and expects the quality of the show and the videos presented on it to increase “as the semester unfolds. You're going to see a lot more stuff that really reflects the quality of the students in my [AVTF] program... and we want the campus excited to be a Buc, and excited to tune into the mornings.”

As discussed before by Mr. Williams, one of the recurring segments on the morning show is Anchor Sports with Allatoona’s own Nigel Cireddu, where he gives you the rundown of the latest from the Allatoona sports world. Everyone at Allatoona loves to see what Nigel has to say about the recent sports news and how he can put his creative spin on it, and he remembers “how he always thought he could be a great anchor,” and The Anchor Broadcast helped him confirm this.

Along with being a part of the morning broadcast, he has also been a student in the AVTF courses here at Allatoona, and he praises how it allows him to “express [his] creative outlet,” and “it made [him] realize what he wants to do in the future... and it has prepared [him] for what he is to see” when he continues filmmaking into the future.

When it comes to news, Nigel suggests, “to not think too hard about it,” and how “it's all about overcoming nerves... and putting yourself out there.” Williams believes that “kids should join it because they’re going to get leadership opportunities, they're going to get community service opportunities, and they’re going to make a lot of friends in the process and have a good time.”

The morning broadcast is always looking for new members, and with seniors leaving soon, there are going to be some open spots. If you are interested in getting involved with The Anchor Broadcast, make sure to talk to Mr. Williams in room 1404 or come in the mornings to watch the morning broadcast from inside the studio.
