Clinic FAQ
Q: WHAT VACCINES DOES MY CHILD NEED FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL?
A: Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis, or whooping cough. Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY) helps protect against bacterial meningitis. Form 3231 is due by the beginning of the school year for 7th graders and is available from your child’s pediatrician or the Cobb County Health Department. Here is the CDC’s Recommended Immunization Schedule from birth to 18 years.
Q: IS THERE A “GOOD” TIME TO COME TO THE CLINIC?
A: There is no “good” time to come; however the clinic tends to be busier around lunch time, and Friday’s are always busy due to Fresh Air Friday activities! Parents are welcome to come during clinic hours (9am-4:15pm) to drop off medicine or speak with me in person, but we ask that you contact Nurse Vanessa at Vanessa.Moulthrop@cobbk12.org in advance to schedule a time to come in. With the exception of emergency situations, please note that the clinic is closed from 1:30-2:00pm for lunch.
Q: MY CHILD NEEDS TO TAKE MEDICATION AT SCHOOL. HOW DO I DO THIS?
A: See MEDICATIONS
Q: TO WHOM SHOULD I SEND IN SICK NOTES?
A: Carolina Helsel is our fabulous new attendance clerk. Please send all sick notes into her. They can be sent in with your student or emailed to her at Carolina.Helsel@cobbk12.org.
Q: WHEN IS IT OK FOR MY CHILD TO RETURN TO SCHOOL AFTER BEING SICK?
A: If a student has had a fever, he/she should be fever-free for 24 hours, without taking fever-reducing medication, before returning to school. If a student has had vomiting or diarrhea, they must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school. If a student has a contagious infection that is being treated with antibiotics, the student must be on antibiotics for 24-hours before returning to school. See Procedures When Students Show Signs of Illness or Injury for more information.
Q: CAN I DROP OFF MEDICINE AT THE FRONT DESK FOR MY CHILD?
A: Unfortunately the front desk cannot accept medication. All medication must be dropped off by a parent/guardian and given directly to the nurse or clinic substitute. For more information click here.
Q: WHO CAN PICK UP MY SICK CHILD FROM SCHOOL?
A: A parent/guardian or anyone listed on the Emergency Contact List, which the enrolling adult completed at the beginning of the school year, can pick up a student from school. For safety reasons, people who are not included on that list, are not permitted to pick up your student .
