As families and community members gathered along Shallowford Road, waiting for students and school staff to parade down the street, Ty and Gina waved to the crowd and tossed candy to eager little hands. The two members of Lassiter High School’s Homecoming Court didn’t know that before the end of the day, they would be crowned King and Queen. 

Lassiter’s Homecoming Parade is an annual event the community looks forward to each year. The parade includes school celebrities like Ty and Gina, along with the Teachers of the Year and representatives from different student organizations. The parade fans include more than high school students; future Lassiter Trojans line the road. Even Santa Claus flew in to show his Trojan pride.

Following the parade, students, parents, and alumni packed the stadium for the Homecoming game, including the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen and spirit-packed halftime show. The Homecoming finale was the student dance the next day. 

Every fall, students—past, present, and future—along with staff, parents, and others come together to celebrate the school at the center of their community. Whether at Lassiter High School or on the other side of the count at Osborne High School, Homecoming is often an activity-packed week gushing with school spirit. 

Pep rallies pump up the students. Students compete for the best themed-day outfit. Some schools even host parades that honor students, the homecoming court, and teachers and employees of the year. The football game is not only a highlight for current students but also draws alumni back to their old high school to relive the excitement and support their team. 

For former students, Homecoming is a chance to reconnect with friends and teachers and celebrate the school community that shaped their experiences. At halftime, the much-anticipated crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen takes place, as they are voted on by their classmates. 

After the game, many students celebrate by attending the homecoming dance, closing out a week of fun and school pride. Homecoming is more than just a celebration—it's a reminder of the pride, memories, and lasting bonds that make students love their school year after year. 

Osborne High School was pumped up with more school spirit than in any of Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Ronald Boggs's nine years at the school. 

“A high percentage of our students participated in the dress-up days. The week ended with our Homecoming Pep Rally, the crowning of the Queen and King at halftime of the game, and the Homecoming Dance,” AP Boggs. “The game was a very good game, with our team showing a lot of grit to overcome adversity throughout the game. It is really fun sharing these experiences with our kids…watching our kids enjoy their high school experiences is great!” 

A pep rally kicked off homecoming week for Harrison High School. Every student came decked out in their class colors, determined to take first place in all the activities planned and prepared by the Student Council. One of the competitive games played was crab soccer. 

“The eight Homecoming Court representatives of the Senior class [were] escorted, anticipating who will be crowned Homecoming King and Queen,” shared Lindsay Riley, a Harrison teacher. “The crowned individuals for this year are viewed as involved, dedicated, committed, and have that Hoya pride. Making our way towards the Hoya Center, we stepped into a fairytale-filled hallway with adventure, fun, and making life-lasting memories!” 

After a spirit-packed week, Abraham and Emily were crowned Sprayberry High School’s Homecoming King and Queen. The 2023 Homecoming duo returned to crown the new Sprayberry royalty for 2024. Leading up to Friday Night Lights and Sprayberry’s Band of Gold performance, students and staff celebrated with a Homecoming parade, block party, Twin Day, BBQ Dads vs Soccer Moms, Inside Out Day, and Rhyme with a Reason Day. 

While Homecoming celebrates tradition, it's the exceptional teaching and learning happening every day that fills the community with pride for the schools in the Cobb County School District.
