Cobb Schools’ Athlete of the Week (AOW) program is a weekly recognition of male and female student-athletes performing at high levels in their sport, classroom, and school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN Sports.

This week’s winners are basketball players from Pebblebrook and South Cobb. Goddess Hancock is a senior for the Falcons, and DJ McMillan is a junior for the Eagles.

Goddess Hancock, Basketball, Pebblebrook

In one of her final games wearing the #5 jersey for the Falcons, Goddess had an impressive evening with 12 points, four steals, six rebounds, and contributed three assists. She has been playing basketball for 10 years and crushes it in the classroom and on the court. She is a member of the Young Entrepreneur Association and has her own athleisure line of clothing.

"Goddess brings a multitude of qualities to the team. She has this contagious work ethic, and her dedication and desire to be a better player are undeniable," said her coach, Tina Hadley. "She consistently demonstrates dedication, hard work, and a positive attitude. This inspires others to follow suit and elevates the overall team performance."

"She's a force to be reckoned with on the court. She has quick hands, incredible footwork, and unimaginable strength. She's the kind of player who makes everyone around her better, always encouraging her teammates and celebrating their successes. This isn't just about talent; it's about dedication, discipline, and a genuine love for the game. She's a role model for every young athlete out there," Coach Hadley concluded proudly about her Athlete of the Week.

DJ McMillan, Basketball, South Cobb

The Eagles Boys' basketball team recently won a huge regional game over McEachern. DJ was instrumental in this win, scoring 21 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. He was all over the court and motivated the rest of the team. DJ is a great student with a great attitude on and off the court. He also plays AAU basketball and volunteers at several community service events in his free time.

"He is very deserving of this award. DJ is one of those young men who leads by setting good examples for others to follow. He is well-respected by his teammates and classmates in a very positive manner," said Eagle Head Coach Hollis Bethea. "He means a great deal to this team for our overall success with his scoring, rebounding, and defensive abilities."

"I have witnessed firsthand the hard work and dedication that he has put into achieving success on the court. He's humble, tremendously athletic, gifted, and has a high level of character. DJ has been recognized as one of the top junior basketball players in the state. He's a pleasure to coach," Coach Bethea said with a smile.

South Cobb Athletic Director Ormond Moore agreed. "DJ is one of the most passionate athletes we have at South Cobb," he said. "He loves to compete, and you can tell every time he steps on the court!"
