Pebblebrook’s Band Marches onto National Stage

April 23, 2025—The powerful sound of drums, the crisp precision of a high-stepping band, and the booming energy of Pebblebrook High School’s “Mighty Marching Machine” recently echoed down the historic streets of Washington, D.C. The Pebblebrook students marched onto the national stage as they performed in the prestigious 2025 National Cherry Blossom Parade.
A Dream Come True
Receiving the invitation to perform in the National Cherry Blossom Parade was momentous news for the Mighty Marching Machine. It served as an opportunity to represent not only their school but their entire community in a renowned event where bands compete for limited spots, sometimes 3 years in advance.
“We were absolutely thrilled!” said Eulas Kirtdoll, Pebblebrook's Director of Bands. “When the announcement was made, there was this explosion of excitement across our entire band family. Being selected for such a prestigious national event was a huge honor and a testament to the daily hard work and dedication our students exhibit. We are very grateful.”
Hard Work Behind the Music
In preparation for this monumental event, the students committed to countless hours of practice. Every note played and every formation marched reflected the months of dedication they poured into perfecting their craft.
“The students showed incredible discipline and passion, knowing that they would be representing not only Pebblebrook High School but the entire Cobb County School District,” the band director explained.
A Performance to Remember
As the band paraded through the streets of Washington, D.C., they knew they were living a once-in-a-lifetime moment. They passed thousands of cheering spectators from across the nation, and the energy was electric. Even more watched the parade on their TVs.
“The top highlight of the trip was marching down Constitution Avenue with the Washington Monument in the background,” shared Pebblebrook's band director. “The performance was a culmination of hard work, fundraising, and support from our community.”
The crowd’s enthusiastic response further fueled the students’ pride and excitement. Cheers and applause followed the Pebblebrook band as they showcased the musical talent and showmanship that make them a standout program in Georgia and beyond.
Beyond the Parade: A Journey of Discovery
While the performance was the top memory-maker, the trip offered much more than a moment in the spotlight. Throughout their stay in Washington, D.C., the students participated in educational and inspiring experiences.
They toured the U.S. Capitol Building, met Senator Raphael Warnock, and explored several iconic landmarks and museums, including the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Lincoln Memorial, and the MLK Memorial. They also visited Howard University and North Carolina A&T State University, opening their eyes to future academic possibilities.
“Our students were in awe of this incredible opportunity,” said the band director. “They not only showcased their talent, but they also gained a deeper understanding of our country’s history and the importance of leadership and legacy.”
Lasting Impact, Lifelong Memories
The impact of this trip will resonate far beyond the parade route. Performing for a national audience gave the students a boost of confidence and reinforced the powerful role that music can play in shaping futures.
“The students had the opportunity to grow personally by exploring our rich history by visiting the monuments and museums,” the band director said. “The students also gained a sense of pride and confidence not only in themselves but in the fact that music can afford you life-changing opportunities.”
A Message of Pride and Passion
More than anything, the Pebblebrook Marching Band hoped to convey a message of excellence, unity, and pride through its performance. The unwavering support of the school and community made their presence in Washington, D.C., possible.
“We hope our performance radiated the immense pride and passion our students have in our band program,” the director shared. “The Washington D.C. trip would not have been possible without the support of our Principal, Dr. Dana Giles, the School Administration, Band Parents, and Supporters.”
The “Mighty Marching Machine” not only entertained a national audience—it inspired them. Pebblebrook High School can proudly say its band left a lasting impression in the heart of the nation’s capital, showcasing the strength of student musicianship in Cobb County.
