Indians return to form with an impressive Homecoming win

The McEachern Indians (3-4) began region play last night with a home game against the Campbell Spartans (3-3). The Indians had struggled in recent weeks with home losses against Newton and Milton. With a 2-4 record and playoff hopes on the line, the Indians needed a win over the Spartans.
The Spartans were in a similar situation. After an impressive start to their season with wins over East Paulding, Berkmar, and Woodstock, Campbell lost their previous two games. The short trip from Smyrna to Powder Springs to begin region play was an opportunity for a fresh start.
An expectant home crowd filed into Walter Cantrell Stadium with hopes high from Homecoming festivities. The Indian offense did not disappoint, and the defense did its job as well. McEachern took a 15-0 lead into halftime. As the Homecoming King and Queen were crowned, the Indians headed to the locker room to strategize the second half.
The third quarter was all McEachern. QB Bryce Archie and WR Kaleb Webb connected for three TD passes to extend the Indian lead to 36-0. It was reminiscent of their first game of the season, when Archie and Webb connected for multiple TDs at Mercedes-Benz Stadium against the Kell Longhorns.
The final score was 36-7 and it was an encouraging sign for the Indian fans as the team enters the second half of its season. With upcoming region games against Newnan and East Coweta, the Indians have a chance to gain momentum heading into their final game against region-leader Pebblebrook.
For the Spartans, the game revealed defensive holes that will need to be closed. Campbell faces Pebblebrook next Friday, followed by East Coweta and Newnan.
