Cobb County Provides Leadership Resources for Athletes
The Cobb County school district is pleased to announce that they’ve partnered with Jamy Bechler and The Leadership Playbook to provide leadership training and resources to student-athletes and coaches for all of Cobb County for the 2021-2022 school year.
"We couldn’t be more excited to work with Cobb County Director of Athletics Don Baker and all 16 of Cobb County’s high school athletic directors this season as they seek to influence and impact their student-athletes in a positive manner," said Bechler. "It is great to see the coaches in Cobb County who value the total student-athlete experience. We look forward to working with them this year."
“We are very proud to announce this partnership with Jamy Bechler and The Leadership Playbook," said Don Baker. "The program is phenomenal because it is a multifaceted resource that helps student-athletes, coaches, and athletic administrators. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our programs and the student-athlete experience and The Leadership Playbook surely fits the bill."
Jamy Bechler is considered one of the nation’s leading experts in sports leadership, teamwork, and culture. He is the author of three books, including The Bus Trip, and hosts the popular "Success is a Choice" podcast. The former college basketball coach and high school athletic director now works with high-level teams and organizations to help them maximize their success.
Mr. Bechler said that one of the things that attracted him to Cobb School District—the second largest in the state—was Don Baker's commitment to equipping, empowering, and encouraging the student-athletes, coaches, and ADs that he serves. "Now with this program and the resources available," Bechler continued, "the athletes in Cobb County will have many more opportunities to maximize their potential both on and off the fields of competition."
"Today’s students are tomorrow’s businesspeople, educators, leaders, community members, and parents," Bechler added. "We should equip, enhance, and empower them with the abilities to make the world a little bit better. Sports are a great means for achieving this. The Leadership Playbook helps students understand how to be more positive leaders and better teammates. When this happens, a program develops a stronger culture. These skills are also useful once the student is done competing in athletics."
Bechler developed TheLeadershipPlaybook.com as a program providing hundreds of two minute on-demand video lessons that students can watch on their phones or tablets. In addition to the video lessons, there are an abundance of resources available to both coaches and student-athletes. A variety of services including leadership consulting and virtual presentations are also provided to the member schools.
“We enjoy coming alongside the coaches and students to help them better understand leadership and working together for a common goal. Great teams have great teammates," Bechler concluded, "and we love seeing individuals improve themselves, which ultimately improves the group.”
