Of the 16 high schools in Cobb County School District, nine have extended their football seasons by making it into the playoffs. The District also boasts a region winner in all three of the regions in which it competes: McEachern in Region 2-7A, North Cobb in Region 3-7A, and Kennesaw Mountain in Region 6-6A.

In the final regular season games of 2021, two games in 7A were particularly notable for postseason rankings: McEachern at Pebblebrook and Marietta at Walton. North Cobb had already secured their region win with a dominant performance over Marietta the week earlier, and Harrison took the fourth playoff slot with a big win at Hillgrove.

Walton hosted Marietta for an important game to determine the second place slot in Region 3-7A. Both offenses are known for scoring, and the outcome would depend on defense. Marietta brought their "A" game to Raider Valley and easily took the second slot with a 42-14 win over Walton. Marietta will host their first-round game against Tift County, while the Raiders will travel to Colquitt County for theirs.

The other decisive 7A game was McEachern heading south to Pebblebrook for a winner-take-all region championship matchup. The Falcons were looking to defend their undefeated season for their home crowd, while the Indians needed to extend their three-game win-streak to win the region. McEachern brought a relentless up-tempo ground attack thanks to running backs Makari Bodford, Peja Womack, and Shamar Hall. The Falcon defense could barely get set between plays, much less catch their breath. After nearly three quarters, it was all McEachern, 26-0.

A kickoff return for a TD with less than two minutes left in the third quarter sparked Pebblebrook back into action, giving the home stands something to cheer about. Although the night ultimately did not go the Falcons' way, Pebblebrook will get another chance to dazzle the Falcon faithful with a home first-round game against Parkview on Friday. With the 33-20 victory, McEachern took the region title and will host their first-round contest against South Gwinnett.

In 6A action, Kennesaw Mountain shutout Osborne to win its first-ever region championship. Allatoona took second in the region with a win over Pope, who settled for third. Kell beat Lassiter on the road to take the final playoff spot for Region 6-6A. Kennesaw will host Lanier, and Allatoona will welcome Shiloh to Buccaneer Stadium on Saturday. Pope will travel to Dacula, and Kell will head east to Buford for their first-round games.

Good luck Cobb teams! The second season begins now...
