Superintendent Ragsdale Recommends Healthy 7.5% - 12.1% Raise for all Non-Temporary Employees, Millage Rate Rollback
Once again, students and staff remain the priority in the proposed budget for the Cobb County School District’s new school year. Today, Superintendent Chris Ragsdale outlined the tentative Fiscal Year 2024 budget, which includes a healthy 7.5% - 12.1% proposed raise for every non-temporary staff member in the Cobb County School District. The proposed raise includes a salary step increase for all eligible employees.
Benefiting Cobb County taxpayers, the tentative budget also reduces the General Fund millage rate by .20 mills to 18.7 mills. This is the first millage rate decrease since FY 2007.
In May, the Board of Education will have an opportunity to vote on final approval to the Superintendent’s proposed budget and demonstrate why 99% of Cobb educators plan to return next school year while thousands of others look for an opportunity to join the Cobb Schools team.
“Cobb is the best place to teach, lead, and learn. The Superintendent’s ability to provide substantial raises for staff and lower costs for the Cobb taxpayer is more proof. Our Board’s conservative fiscal policies are helping our District and staff survive unprecedented inflation and keep our per-student-cost at some of the lowest in the metro while our students succeed at the highest level,” said Board Chair Brad Wheeler.
Additional Highlights for the Proposed FY2024 Budget:
- The FY2024 Tentative Budget is balanced
- FY2024 General Fund is approximately 1.5 billion
- The District continues to maintain a AAA Credit Rating from 3 Global Credit Rating Services (Moody’s Investor Service, Standard & Poor’s, Kroll Credit Rating Agency).
- The District is the only government entity or corporation in the United States with 3 AAA Credit Ratings.
- The finances of the Cobb County School District continue to be audited every year by a professional, independent auditor (Mauldin & Jenkins CPAs).
