Two weeks ago, 107,000+ students entered Cobb Schools for another year of learning in Georgia's second-largest school district. The August 17 meeting marked the first time the Board has met since the District's 112 schools and 19,000 staff welcomed students back. 

"This year, 99% of our teachers signed on to return and help Cobb students continue growing academically and succeeding at higher rates than their peers across the state and Atlanta metro. Every year I am thankful for the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by our team of veteran educators and the support of the entire Cobb County community," said Cobb Schools Board Chair Brad Wheeler. 

Before the start of the school year, Superintendent Chris Ragsdale named the Teachers of the Year for elementary, middle, and high school. The Board honored Cobb's top three teachers during the meeting: Suzette Spinelli, Lassiter High School; Annelisa Bellack, Awtrey Middle School; Dr. Elizabeth Goff, Bells Ferry Elementary School. Earlier this week, Superintendent Ragsdale made the surprise announcement that Dr. Goff is the Cobb Schools District Level Teacher of the Year.

The Board voted 4-3 to approve the Superintendent's recommended personnel legal action.

The District is pleased that this difficult issue has concluded; we are very serious about keeping our classrooms focused on teaching, learning, and opportunities for success for students. The Board's decision is reflective of that mission.
