Pebblebrook celebrates 60 years

Pebblebrook High School, now celebrating its 60th year of academic excellence, is hosting a Diamond birthday celebration starting October 20.

“There is something unique and special about Pebblebrook High School and all who call Pebblebrook home,” said Dr. Dana Giles, Pebblebrook’s very proud principal. “Pebblebrook remains the pride of Mableton.”

Pebblebrook is home to the first magnet program in Cobb County, the prestigious Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts, the Mighty Marching Machine (M3), the standard for Show bands with over $6 million awarded to graduating seniors annually, and the new STEAM Academy for Advanced Academics.

The 60th Diamond Birthday celebration kicks off with the Pebblebrook Homecoming Football Game vs. Campbell High School on October 20. The start time is 7:00 pm at the Pebblebrook High School Stadium Complex at 991 Old Alabama Road in Mableton, Georgia.

The birthday celebration continues on October 21 with the Pebblebrook Alumni Day, car show, and traditional tailgate where alumni can rent tent spaces to cook out. The Tailgate celebration will include business vendors, food trucks, and a children’s inflatable area.

Following the tailgate, current Pebblebrook students will return to campus for the “Diamonds are Forever” homecoming dance. On October 22 at 2:00 pm, the Pebblebrook community will come together to mark an end to the 60th anniversary celebration with a memorial service for Pebblebrook Falcons who have passed away. A special CCCEPA alumni reunion choir is forming to provide music for this event.

Tickets for the Pebblebrook tailgate event and Homecoming game are available through www.gofan.co, with options to donate to the school’s 60/60 Scholarship Fund for 60 graduating Pebblebrook students.

“Having taught and coached at Pebblebrook, I know how important Pebblebrook is to South Cobb and how important it has been. It’s exciting to see how Pebblebrook has changed and improved over the years - most recently, the investment we have made to the campus help make any Pebblebrook student’s future very bright,” said Board Chair Brad Wheeler. “I’m thankful for all Dr. Giles, her entire team, and the community have done to support Pebblebrook students. We are proud of Pebblebrook’s past and excited for its future,” said Board Chair Brad Wheeler.

“We couldn’t be more excited! Welcome home to the new Pebblebrook High School!” added Dr. Giles.

A look back at the history of Pebblebrook: Pebblebrook was founded in the fall of 1963 on a 29-acre plot of land. Originally called Pebblebrook Junior High School, 37 staff members welcomed about 900 ninth graders for the school’s inaugural year. The students came to Pebblebrook from 14 elementary schools in the general area south of Jones Shaw and Cherokee Roads. To learn more about Pebblebrook’s rich history, go here.
