Families, friends, and classmates packed into Osborne's Performing Arts Center to witness the Cobb Horizon Class of 2024 Commencement Ceremony on December 14, 2023. The nearly 100 graduates were all smiles as they gathered as a group one last time before walking across the PAC stage to receive their well-deserved diplomas.

"You are a fun and unique group," said Cobb Horizon Principal Jeanne Walker. "You are our family, and we are going to miss you. You're not only graduates but champions of individuality and the power of unconventional paths. I hope you realize how much you are loved by this staff. As much as we hope to impact your lives positively, we hope even more that you see the impact you had on ours."

Principal Walker went on to highlight some of the unique qualities of the group of 97 graduates. 39 (40%) are finishing their high school careers early; 4 have finished more than 1.5 years early. Nearly half (48%) intend to pursue a degree at a 2- or 4-year college. 11% are planning to enlist in the military. 20% are pursuing apprenticeship or certification in a career field. The final 20% are still considering their options.

Ivan Garcia Chavez and Andreona Jenae-Nicole Lee were awarded the "Defying the Odds Award" in recognition of their hard work and dedication to finish their degrees while also working full-time (Chavez) and facing the challenges of being a single parent (Lee).

"Cobb Horizon has been such an amazing opportunity for me. It has given me a chance to change my future. Everyone here has a story. Remember that in life, you will face difficult situations and have to make hard decisions. I encourage you to make those decisions and think of the future because everyone has a purpose," said Ms. Lee in her brief Graduate Address.

After being certified by Assistant Superintendent Christian Suttle, the diplomas were handed out, and each student got their chance to be recognized as a high school graduate. The ceremony was closed out by Mark Anthony Toomer as he rang the bell a final time and led his classmates in the traditional "turning of the tassel."

"At Cobb Horizon, each student who earned their final credit rings the bell to signify the completion of the required coursework. This evening, we will ring the bell one final time to signify our graduation as the Class of 2024!" Mr. Toomer said to applause and cheers.

"We are proud of each and every one of you. You made it; you have that diploma. We know you're going to go on and do great things. Just don't forget to come back and visit us. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Class of 2024 of Cobb Horizon High School!" Principal Walker said to conclude the ceremony. The graduates and guests then went out to the courtyard for the cap toss to complete a joyous and hopeful evening.

Ninety-seven new Cobb alums are now ready for the next phase in their journey. Congratulations to each of you, Cobb Horizon 2024 Graduates!
