Employee Bonus

As the holiday break began, Governor Brian Kemp announced a $1,000 bonus for teachers and school support staff across the state.

Today, in the first Board meeting of the new year, the Cobb County Board of Education voted to approve Superintendent Chris Ragsdale’s recommendation to expand the bonus to include ALL non-temporary Cobb Schools staff members.

Full-time employees and employees who work half-time or more will receive a $1,000 bonus. In addition, the Board approved a $500 bonus for those non-temporary staff members working less than half-time.

“Governor Kemp has shown his commitment to educators, and ultimately students, for years. Similarly, Superintendent Ragsdale’s recommendation extends the Governor’s $1,000 bonus to ALL non-temporary staff and is a reminder of our commitment to the entire Team who provide Cobb’s children with a world-class education,” said Board Chair Randy Scamihorn.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Who is eligible to receive the bonus? The bonus will be paid to all non-temporary employees.
  2. My salary is paid out of Grant funds, not the General Fund. Will I receive the bonus? Yes, the Superintendent has authorized all eligible positions to receive the bonus regardless of funding source.
  3. When will the bonus be paid? Employees who are paid bi-weekly will see the bonus added to their January 19th paycheck. Employees who are paid monthly will see the bonus added to their January 24th paycheck. (As has been the custom for the last few years, employees who are paid monthly are scheduled to receive their paychecks one week early in January.)
  4. How much will the bonus be? Full-time employees and employees who work half-time or more will receive a $1,000 bonus; employees working less than half-time will receive a $500 bonus. The bonus is a gross payment amount, subject to income and withholding taxes, and as a result, the net amount received will be less than the gross amount of the bonus.
  5. Is the bonus subject to Teacher’s Retirement System withholdings? No, the bonus is not considered earnable compensation per TRS.

Cobb Schools Board Votes to Approve New Leadership for 2024:

In a special called meeting on January 3, the Cobb County School District (CCSD) Board of Education held the annual vote to elect a new Board Chair and Vice-Chair.

The Board voted Randy Scamihorn, Post 1, to the position of Board Chair for 2024. David Banks, Post 5, will continue to serve as Vice-Chair in 2024.

“We are known across the country for providing a high-quality education and prioritizing students and staff above all else. As Chair this year, our Board will continue to protect Cobb’s families and taxpayers from anything that takes our focus away from educating Cobb’s children,” Mr. Scamihorn said.

The meeting also included the Board’s vote to approve the 2024 Board meeting calendar, which will be available here.
