Developed by a School committee, “Mindforce” is an educational program that provides creative problem solving opportunities for students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. Student teams from schools apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.

They bring their solutions to the Mindforce competition. In Mindforce, students learn at a young age skills that will last a lifetime. Mindforce teaches lessons that benefit students in and out of the program. The students are expected to prepare their solutions to the problems by working collaboratively.

On Saturday, three teams of intermediate students from JDSS competed in the Mindforce program at Vista Academy. Mr. Carroll, our grade 8 teacher, worked with the students as a coach over several months to guide and support them in preparing their solutions to the problems.

Team One: Lucas Dodson, Alec Gay, Ceilidh Tomljenovic, Jack Turner, Spencer Ferguson, Bridget Warnock

Team Two: Alexis Provost, Sarah Knezevic,  Averie Provost, Katarina Kolobaric, Alex McCrindle, Raven Bolivar

Team Three: Sarah Kirst, Elaina Pardalis, Miranda Pecoraro, Jaime Lee Nantais, Jamie Land

We would like to congratulate Team One for winning first place in the “Turf n’ Surf” competition that required the students to create an eco-friendly vehicle that needed to climb a 30 degree incline and then travel through water to the finish line.

All three teams were dedicated in their efforts to solve their problems, applied their outstanding skills, talents and knowledge to create their solutions and worked in collaboration with a very strong team spirit. Way to go, Mighty Oaks. We are very proud of you!
