The Inside Scoop: In-Depth on School Safety (Part Two)
In this second part of his discussion about safety and security, Superintendent Ragsdale continues highlighting the ways Cobb is protecting students and staff. While districts around the country have responded with various methods, Cobb's leadership believes that teachers should focus on teaching while law enforcement handles safety.
Superintendent Ragsdale explains why certain details, such as safety plans, cannot be publicly discussed. Although parents may want more transparency, confidentiality is necessary to maintain security. This is why the school board discusses safety in executive sessions and implements measures like the Evolve weapons detection system without divulging operational details. This approach balances transparency without compromising security protocols.
Bullying and prevention programs like "Expect Respect " are also discussed. The District takes bullying seriously, and teachers and staff are trained to address it quickly. Students can also help by saying something if they see something, which helps maintain a supportive environment in schools.
Communication between school and home is vital, and parents are reminded to avoid rushing to schools during potential emergencies. Teachers, administrators, and Cobb police are trained and ready to react in a crisis. A collective effort and mutual trust are required to create and maintain safe school environments throughout the District.
