Cobb Schools’ Athlete of the Week (AOW) program is a weekly recognition of male and female student-athletes performing at high levels in their sport, classroom, and school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN Sports.

This week’s winners are sophomores from Allatoona and South Cobb. Grant Albright wrestles for the Buccaneers, and Aliceson Lewis is the QB for the Eagle Flag football team.

Grant Albright, Wrestling, Allatoona

At the Warrior Invitational, Grant won the 126-lb weight class, beating last year's champ in the first round and scoring a major decision in the finals. He has been wrestling since middle school and works hard every day. He has also put in a ton of work in the off-season to prepare for this year. He also plays baseball for the Bucs. Grant's character and work ethic are contagious, and he excels in the classroom.

"He is a critical leader of our team," said Head Coach Kyle Norred. "Grant leads by example and does a great job showing the younger guys how to work hard. His commitment to wrestling and the team is exceptional."

"He is not only a leader on the mats but in the classroom as well. He makes good grades and is respectful to others. We are extremely proud of him and his success. It is a privilege to have Grant in the program!" Coach Norred concluded about his Athlete of the Week.

Aliceson Lewis, Flag Football, South Cobb

South Cobb made the playoffs this season for the first time since starting their Flag Football program. Aliceson led the team to four straight victories last week with 724 total yards and 12 TDs. The Eagles are the #2 seed in Area 3. They have a 5-1 record in Area play and finished the regular season 12-7. They will head to Denmark on December 5 for the first round of the state tournament to play Heritage (Conyers). Aliceson is a dual-sport athlete (basketball) and a great student in the classroom.

"Allie is a centerpiece and focus of our schemes. She has exceeded the expectations we had for her when she started," said her coach, Robert Byrd. "We go as she goes, both offensively and defensively. Her play brings the best out of her teammates. She is quiet yet confident, reserved yet fierce. She keeps her composure even when her coaches can tell she is frustrated. She is well-liked throughout our building and handles her business both in the classroom and on the playing surface."

"She has grown in ways I could not have predicted from her first summer practice as a freshman. She's only going to get better in her final two seasons, which is exciting and scary to think about. I can't wait to continue to watch Allie's development and the future success she will undoubtedly have here at South Cobb and beyond," Coach Byrd said proudly.

"As a sophomore, she's already taken on leadership roles in the Athletic Department. She's a dual-sport athlete and very passionate about all things South Cobb. Allie means so much to our school," agreed Eagle AD Ormond Moore.
