New Principal Profile: Tangela Hendrix, Hendricks Elementary School
A familiar and dedicated leader is in the principal’s office of Hendricks Elementary School. Tangela Hendrix will draw on her 25 years of educational experience to uphold the school’s tradition of rich learning opportunities, strong community connections, and a safe environment for students.
“I am grateful to continue to be a part of this extraordinary school community. Serving as the assistant principal for the last year has allowed me to collaborate with the Hendricks community to provide a student-centered learning environment. Hendricks Elementary School has a long history of receiving academic awards, and I want to continue that legacy as the school leader,” Principal Hendrix shared.
Principal Hendrix kicked off her decades-long career in Cobb as a Special Education EBD teacher at Riverside Elementary School. Students at Hendricks will also benefit from their new principal’s leadership experience at Clarkdale Elementary School and Dowell Elementary School.

Question: What does “student success” mean to you?
Answer: “Student success means all students receive instruction that allows them to achieve academic goals while engaging in meaningful learning experiences. Student success also includes establishing healthy relationships that promote positive social and emotional well-being. Ultimately, students' success equates to becoming productive citizens, lifelong learners, and independent thinkers.”
Question: Under your leadership, how will you build on Hendricks’ successes?
Answer: “As the school's leader, I will build relationships and provide students with opportunities to show their gifts and talents. I firmly believe in Unity Builds Community; continuing the school's community relationship will allow it to thrive in Powder Springs. As we embark on this journey together, I look forward to developing and empowering the whole child for a bright future.”
Question: What role do you see parents and the community playing in supporting student success?
Answer: “I see a strong home and school connection between our parents and the team at Hendricks. Engaging parents in what students are learning will provide insight into how they can help their children. This will be supported by giving parent workshops in literacy and math support, which will provide parents with ways to help students achieve academic goals. I see the community partnering with the school to help support the school’s mission of ‘Inspiring Excellence through Engagement.’”
Question: What do you like most about being an educator, and what is your favorite memory?
Answer: “As an educator, it warms my heart to see students return, sharing the staff's impact on their lives. I enjoy seeing students learn and thrive in an environment that embraces their gifts and talents. My favorite memory as an educator involves attending the graduation of students I’ve taught. It means so much to me that I witnessed their completion of the K-12 experience.”
Question: Outside of school, where might parents and students find you, or what’s an interesting fact about you that the school community might enjoy learning?
Answer: “You will find me with my family. My husband and I have two sons, Jamal and Jalen. We spend time traveling and having fun. One interesting fact about me is that I am a native of Atlanta. I love my city and enjoy exploring new restaurants on the weekends.”
