The Georgia Athletic Administrators Association (GADA) recently held its annual year-end banquet to honor sports administrators across the entire state. The awards luncheon, which was held at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta, was the first physical gathering of the group since 2019, as 2020's celebration was canceled due to shelter-in-place restrictions last year.

Several individuals from Cobb Schools were recognized at the ceremony for their outstanding achievements during the 2020-21 school year.

Sophia Haag, a dual-sport athlete from Allatoona High School, was awarded the Female GADA Scholarship. Sophia was selected as the winner out of five finalists because she represented both her school and sports well in performance and leadership. She will receive a $1500 scholarship award.

Dr. Jeff Hutson, Athletic Director at Campbell High School, was recognized as Region 2-7A AD of the Year.

“Jeff is a proven athletic leader who has received this recognition on multiple occasions," said Don Baker, Cobb Schools' Director of Athletics. "He is a tireless worker who has a heart for Campbell High School and the Campbell community. He is a great example of the athletic leadership we have in Cobb County."

Josh Mathews, AD at Pope High School, was also awarded AD of the Year for Region 6-6A. On top of that, he took home the highest individual award as State AD of the Year.

"Josh goes above and beyond in everything he does," said Mr. Baker. "He is a leader among leaders within the athletic administrator community and his attention to detail is unmatched. He ensures that Pope High School and Cobb County are respected across the state of Georgia, as well as on the national stage. The Cobb County School District is fortunate to have him and this recognition is very well-deserved."

Cobb Schools also finished strong in the Director's Cup standings, which recognizes the top performing male and female program at a school, as well as the overall top performing program. In 6A, Cobb had three schools in the top ten overall (#4 Allatoona, #6 Pope, and #7 Lassiter). In 7A, Walton closed out a remarkable year by taking state runner-up honors, while Harrison finished at #4 overall.

Congratulations to Sophia Haag and ADs Hutson and Mathews, and to Allatoona, Pope, Lassiter, Walton, and Harrison. You are all great examples of the sports talent and leadership dedication that exists all over Cobb Schools.
