Cobb Schools' Athlete of the Week program is a weekly recognition of a male and a female student-athlete that perform at high levels in their sport, in the classroom, and in their school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN.

This week's winners are both swimmers:

Elizabeth Tilt, Swimming, Lassiter

Elizabeth left the competition in her wake all season, but most recently at the County Championships. She set new records in both the 200m Individual Medley and the 100m Butterfly.

With an All-American time of 1:59:15, she broke the County Championship Meet record, as well as the overall county record, and the Lassiter team record in the 200 IM.

She similarly set three new records in the 100 Fly with an All-American time of 53.50.

She also anchored her 400 Freestyle Relay team, giving them a County Championship win and an All-American Consideration time.

"Elizabeth is a huge asset to our Swim and Dive team," said her coach Brittany Hughes. "Not only because of her speed, but also her confidence and leadership."

"She is an excellent teammate," Coach Hughes continued. "She is always encouraging others to do their best and pumping them up before their races. We can always count on Elizabeth to show up and race."

Max Kornegay, Swimming, Wheeler

Max finished 3rd in the 100 freestyle at the County Championships. He also took 5th place in 100 breaststroke, 4th place in the 200 Free Relay, and 8th place in the 200 Medley Relay. Max's outstanding performances in the pool helped propel the Wildcats to a 5th place finish (out of 17) overall at county.

At the beginning of the season, Max was chosen by his teammates as captain and he has served well in that role as well. He leads the Wildcat team both in and out of the pool.

"Max is a superb young man," said Wheeler head coach Cameron Ward. "As a freshman, he set a goal for himself of achieving a state cut time in ALL the swimming events (200 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, and 100 breaststroke; and the three relays). Only one event, the 100 back, had eluded him. At the final meet of the regular season of his senior year, he achieved a state cut in that event! He is the epitome of a hard worker, an example to his peers, and the rock of this team. He is the perfect choice for this honor!"

"Max is an exceptional student-athlete," said Wheeler Athletic Director Michael Sawyer with pride. "He has risen through Wheeler’s feeder schools: Brumby, East Cobb Middle, and now Wheeler. He sports a weighted GPA above 4.0 as well as perfect attendance. He is a leader in the classroom, the hallways, the pool, and the community. We are so very fortunate to have had Max as a part of the Wheeler community for all of his primary education."
