With passports in hand, students explored cultures from around the world without ever having to leave their Sanders Elementary School cafeteria.
The school’s International Night gave students an opportunity to dive into other cultures through food, art, and music, thanks to the collaboration of the Sanders community.
“At Sanders, we have students and staff from many different countries. We love celebrating the diverse cultures that represent our school, and this event allowed us to learn more about one another,” said Principal Laura Fiedler. “The night was full of singing, dancing, artwork, and tasting a variety of delicious foods from the countries that were represented. It was an amazing event organized by our Family and Community engagement committee.”
Students and their families sampled an array of food from 15 different countries. Some of the international food was courtesy of Sanders staff. In addition to the food, the international visitors enjoyed culturally diverse entertainment, and students earned stickers on their passports. Students researched 27 different countries in advance of the International Night and shared what they learned at the school event.
The event, which hosted about 300 members of the Sanders community, doubled as a student art show for families to see all their students had accomplished during the year. The International Night also provided the Sanders Superstar Chorus an opportunity to perform for their community.
