The Inside Scoop: The Importance of School Social Workers
This week is School Social Worker Week. School social workers are a vital link between the school and the home. They help to give a holistic view of what students and their families are experiencing and how it impacts the student, both academically and behaviorally.
School social workers collaborate with school psychologists, teachers, and the entire educational staff to remove barriers to academic success. Additionally, they work with community agencies to provide students and their families with tools to function and be productive in every phase of life.
Cobb Schools also has a mentoring program for high-risk youth in our community. Mentors provide a safe and trusted outlet for students. They help model and encourage positive life choices to maximize each student's potential. Mentors can recognize and reduce risk factors that can come between children and their ability to learn, both in the classroom and at home.
David discusses these important programs and much more on today's Inside Scoop with special guest Ana Murphy, Cobb Schools' Supervisor of the School Social Work Department.
