Lassiter Speech and Debate wins seven trophies at Novice/JV State Championship tournament
Seven Lassiter Speech and Debate team students earned awards at the Novice/JV State Championship tournament on January 20.
In their first year at a Lincoln Douglas debate, two students reached elimination rounds. Kanav Ganguly went 4-1 in the prelims and finished as a Quarterfinalist. Leo Yadav finished 3-2 in the prelims and finished as a Semifinalist. He also was the top speaker in that division. Parker Glidewell reached elimination rounds in Extemporaneous Speaking and finished 3rd overall. Emma Rasco finished 6th in Impromptu and was the Champion of Program of Oral Interpretation (POI).
Competitors earned $1600 in scholarships to summer speech and debate camp, the Institute for Speech and Debate. Emma earned $600 from her Championship and 6th place finish in Impromptu, and Parker, Sally, Sophia, Adalinn, and Prioska each earned $200.
